| | Born in Zweibrücken, Switzerland in 1820. Kuchel immigrated to America in the 1840s and worked in Philadelphia for P. S. Duval. About 1853 he sailed around the Horn to San Francisco where he was soon a partner of Emil Dresel in a lithography company that specialized in views of mining towns and California cities. Kuchel died in San Francisco on Dec. 20, 1864.
