Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Dorothy Kohlhepp was a painter who settled in Louisville, Kentucky. She studied at the Massachusetts School of Art in New Orleans and in Paris at the Academie Julian and Grand Chaumiere.

She was active in art organizations in Louisville and exhibited widely including the Society of Independent Artists. She was married to artist Norman Kohlhepp.
