| | Born in Holland in 1856. Kooreman was for many years director of the Royal Academy in Leyden, Holland. By 1905 he had moved to San Francisco and in that year was hit by a streetcar which led to his decline. Following the earthquake in 1906, he moved across the bay to Berkeley. He died there of extreme poverty on Jan. 13, 1912. Most of his landscapes and portraits went up in flames in 1906, making extant works rare. Exh: Alaska-Yukon Expo (Seattle), 1909. | Source:
