The following information was submitted by the artist: A native of Western Pennsylvania, Ed Kowalski earned a B.A. in philosophy from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, in 1972. With no formal visual arts program at the university, he learned the basics of painting through a self-directed program. He believes the philosophy studies have helped in giving his work focus, direction, and meaning. In 1973 he began a full-time career as an artist.
