Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1901, Edwin Knutesen lived his early years in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and in 1923 enrolled in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. There he studied under teachers George Oberteuffer, Hugh Breckenridge, and Daniel Garber.
Returning to Milwaukee, he worked for the "Wisconsin News" and attended evening art classes at the Milwaukee State Normal School. His next two years, 1925-26, were spent studying in Paris, (showing 500 of 1645 characters). |
