compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Elizabeth Keith was born in Scotland and was a self-taught artist. Her sister married a publisher who worked in Tokyo, and Elizabeth went to visit there in 1915 for an intended short holiday. She stayed to study woodblock printing however and two years later started to publish her first colour woodblock prints with some success.
She undoubtedly fell under the influence of the American artist Helen Hyde who was working in Japan at the time. Keith traveled throughout East Asia (showing 500 of 837 characters). |
