Ferdinand Keller was a German painter who specialized in history paintings classical allegories and symbolist works. He was also a landscape painter, but these works were primarily studies that would become backgrounds for his historical and symbolist works.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe under the well-known painter and teacher Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. He traveled extensively, first to Switzerland in 1866, then to Rome for two years from 1867 to 1869 (showing 500 of 1354 characters). |
