This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From Monroe, Louisiana, and born in Jackson Parrish, Louisiana, Frank Kelley paints in a wide range of styles from abstraction to Realism to Impressionism.  He depicts landscapes and figures from the jazz world.

He was a business major at Grambling State University in Louisiana and became involved in an art program in college.  There Dr. James Shane was a major influence on his future career.  He credits a major boon to his career at a one-man show in 1999 at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, Louisiana.

Biography from Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History:
The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the largest museum of its kind, will present "Portrayals of Life and Landscapes: The Art of Frank Kelley, Jr.," August 27, 2010 – December 17, 2010.

The trademarks of Frank Kelley’s artistic gift emanate from his upbringing in Jackson and Lincoln Parishes in rural North Louisiana where nurturing parents instilled Christian values and vision.  Utilizing his favorite medium, acrylic on paper and canvas, the master storyteller portrays his passion for life.  His vibrant paintings depict everyday occurrences such as love, struggle, hope, yesterdays, and today. Kelley is nationally and internationally recognized for his extraordinary figurative, landscape, and abstract visualizations!

"Portrayals of Life and Landscapes" will feature more than 30 works of art from private collectors, galleries that represent him; and Kelley’s personal collection. Kelley has exhibited widely, and has been featured in prominent art magazines such as Arts and Antiques, American Artists, Décor, Louisiana Life, Cross Roads and Downtown Los Angeles.

A select list of his accomplishments includes receiving the Detroit Spirit Award and a Cameo Award from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Kelley served as one of 25 artists displayed in conjunction with the Color Purple in Los Angeles, and exhibited at the home of Senator Mary Landrieu in Washington, D.C.  He was featured in the Jazz and Heritage Festival Premier Art Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee, and featured artist at General Motors Minority Dealership Association. ADP Corporation also commissioned him to create four works of art for its Chicago headquarters.
