A watercolorist of landscapes and illustrator for numerous magazines, Gertrude Kay studied with Howard Pyle in Philadelphia at the Drexel Institute and at the Philadelphia Museum School of Design. She was born in Alliance, Ohio.

"Ladies Home Journal" and "Country Gentlemen" frequently carried her illustrations, and she illustrated children's books including "The Jolly Old Shadow Man" (1920) and "The Boy Who Lived in Pudding Lane" (1922).

She painted in the American Southwest, Mexic (showing 500 of 810 characters).
