Born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1910, Helen Kilgour was the daughter
of Victor and Jane Hartson. At the age of 14 she moved with her
family to Eaton Rapids, Michigan. After graduating from the local
schools she began her art education at MacMurray College in St. Louis,
Missouri. She obtained her Masters in Art Education at Wayne
State University.
Helen Kilgour taught at the Detroit Institute of Arts and MacKenzie
