| Herald Elsworth Koonz was born in New York on Jan. 21, 1894. Koonz was a switchman on a railroad while living in Proviso, Illinois in 1920. He settled in Los Angeles in 1921 and by 1930 was working as a commercial artist. He died in Los Angeles on April 22, 1976.
