Herbert S. Kates was a man of many trades. Not only was he an active painter, but an etcher, illustrator, and writer as well. He was born in New York City in 1894. Kates pursued an education in art at both the Art Students League and the Pratt Institute Art School.
He was a member of the New Rochelle Artists Association and the Society of Illustrators. His work was exhibited throughout the United States and abroad at the National Academy of Design, the National Arts Club and the Institut (showing 500 of 994 characters). |
