In spite of his untimely death, he won a niche in Utah's Hall of Fame. He was equally successful in oil and water color. He had a related parallel in music, being very adept as a pianist, accordianist, organist, orchestra conductor and also a teacher of both music and art.
During his lifetime, which was only 40 years, Howard Kearns painted hundreds of water colors and oils; his last painting was "Ranch at Birdseye". After his death, at the Springville High School Art Gallery a Memorial Exhibition of 173 paintings was held from November 2 to the 23, 1947. It was a tribute by the personnel of the Springville High School Art Gallery to Howard Kearns for contributing much to the artistic development of his native town, his state, and to the thousands of individuals who love art.
