This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A folk-art painter of Vermont landscapes and New York City scenes on handsaws, Jacob Kass retired to Vermont in 1976 when he began his painting career. Previously he had lived in Brooklyn where he carried on his father's wagon and truck painting business.

In the 1980s, he exhibited with Allan Stone and later Nancy Hoffman in New York, and in 1981, received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Tampa Museum of Art (1994) and the Mennello Museum of American Folk Art in Orlando (1999) held retrospectives of his work.
