| Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Jacob Knauber became an engraver and
lithographer, founding in 1867, a lithography firm in Milwaukee called
J. Knauber Lithographing Company at 1 Spring Street. The firm was
incorporated in 1888, and his three sons, Arthur, Walter and Richard,
all worked in the company.
Jacob Knauber arrived in Milwaukee when he was a child, and apprenticed
for his profession to a lithographer in St. Louis, Missouri.
