Post-World War II California artist, James Kelly was an abstract-expressionist painter who wrote that "Before the War, I wanted to get away from realistic work but I couldn't figure out how. . . . Picasso's 'Girl Before the Mirror' was the "key to opening the door" (Herskovic 182) to his future career.

James Kelly was born and raised in Pennsylvania; he attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, 1937 and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 1938. Kelly also attended th (showing 500 of 2369 characters).
