John Knott (1878 - 1963)
John Francis Knott was born in Pilson, Austria, and immigrated to Sioux City, Iowa, at age 5 with his widowed mother. He began drawing at an early age, and his first published drawing appeared in the Sioux City Journal when he was 16 years old. Also while in high school, Knott won several contests to have his cartoons appear in the Chicago Record.
He soon convinced his mother to allow him to go to Chicago, where he unsuccessfully sought a posi (showing 500 of 3688 characters). |
