Biography from Palm Collection:
Joseph A. Kennedy, Jr. was born in 1910 in Oakland and was a descendant of a pioneer Oakland family. His father was a prominent attorney and jurist and his family has been active in the Oakland community for 150 years.

He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, and St. Mary's College, where he would later become active with the Alumni group. He also graduated from the California Academy for Advertising Art, and did post-graduate work at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts.

He became art director for many years in San Francisco at several national advertising agencies, as well as in Oakland for Ryder & Ingram. During this period he won a national award in advertising art. He subsequently co-founded Bonfield & Associates and Kennedy Graphics. He retired in 1982 and became a widely recognized member of the East Bay Water Colorist Society.

When not painting, golf was a passion-- as evidenced by his founding of the ''Sandbaggers Golf Club''.

He died Oct. 5, 1994 in Moraga, California.
