My younger brother, Joseph S. Konopka, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 6, 1932. Our family moved to Jersey City, NJ, in 1939, where an Uncle recognized his interest and abilities in painting. He supported him with an appreciation of his talents, and gave him gifts of the precious art supplies he needed.
His first "commission" was from his grammar school classmates, a painting of an Indian on a horse, overlooking a mountain scene. It became a gift of the 8th grade gradua (showing 500 of 6692 characters). |
