| | Modernist painter, muralist. Born in Roznau, Czechoslovakia on Dec. 30, 1887. Katz studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Art and in Munich. During the 1930s he was a resident of Los Angeles. While there, he taught art at the Chouinard School and painted a mural for the Federal Art Project in the Wiggins Trade School which was removed in 1935 due to its nudity and violent content. He later lived in Hampton, VA (1940s) and Atlanta, GA (1950s). By the 1960s he had settled in NYC where he remained until his demise in November 1982. Exh: Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1934.
