Graduate of Topeka High School. Earned a BFA in 1957 from the Univ. of Kansas where he studied with Carlyle Smith and Robert Montgomery and a MFA in 1961 from the Cranbrook Academy of Art where he studied with Richard Thomas. Taught at Southern Illinois Univ. in Carbondale from 1961-96. His papers and an oral interview are held by the Archives of American Art.
