| Sculptor, etcher, printmaker. Born in Glendale, OR on June 27, 1901. Mabel Smith studied at the ASL of NYC. By 1919 she had settled in San Diego and established a studio on Point Loma. In 1926 she studied bronze casting with Archibald Dawson at the Santa Barbara School of the Arts. About 1927 she married Fred Karl and after that time was active in both San Diego and Houston, TX until the early 1940s. Mrs. Karl died in San Diego on Nov. 14, 1990.
