| Born in San Jose, CA on March 5, 1893. Lillie Maria studied initially with her father Wm Kirkgaard. After graduating from the University of Denver Library School, she worked at the Denver Public Library until 1925. Returning to California, she headed the fine arts department of the Pasadena Public Library for 31 years. Locally, she studied painting with F. Tolles Chamberlin, Lawrence Murphy, Alson Clark, and Ella Shepard Bush. Primarily a miniaturist, she also painted full-size oils and watercolors. A spinster, she died in Los Angeles on July 2, 1996.
