| Oil pastelist, Martha Kennedy, earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1986 from the University of Minnesota. Before pursuing her painting career the artist became a professional mountain bike racer. She raced professionally for five years.
In 1991 while living in Lake Tahoe, California she resumed her art studies. It was in her classes with Phyllis Shafer that Martha Kennedy first used pastels and discovered her interest in still life paintings.
