This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Paul Koechl was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 27, 1880. He attended Brooklyn Politech and then Harvard University, graduating in 1902. Independently wealthy, he pursued his three passions -- polo, fencing and painting -- for most of his life.
It was during his affiliation with the Art Students League in New York in the 1920's that he met fellow painter Charlotte Trowbridge, whom he wed in 1926. Their son Victor was born in 1928, and the family divided its time between homes in Europe and the U.S.
Koechl died suddenly in January, 1942, of pneumonia contracted during a trans Atlantic crossing.
