Ruth King was born in Chicago, Illinois. During the 1920s she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later became member of the AIC.
Soon after graduation she started working as an illustrator of youth oriented books and periodicals. Eventually she moved to New York where she spent her life as a career illustrator.
