This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from the artist:

Sharon Kopriva was born in Houston Heights, Texas, 11 February 1948. Educated in Houston public schools and the University of Houston, she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Painting in 1981 and an earlier Bachelor of Science in Art Education in 1970.

Her teachers included New York painter, John Alexander, and sculptor James Surls. Sharon taught in Houston area high schools for ten years prior to her full-time career in the visual arts.

Her Catholic background and an early 1981 trip to Peru directly influenced her somewhat expressionistic mummies like figures. Artists that had a special influence include mentors Edward and Nancy Kienholz, Goya, James Ensor, and Felicien Rops.

Kopriva is heavily involved in public service and in support of the Orange Show, a Houston landmark folk art environment. She maintains studios in Houston, Texas and Hope, Idaho. Her repertoire includes painting, sculpture and graphics.
