| Known for his paintings of still life and landscapes of Colorado
scenery, William A. Knapp was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin, the son of
William B. Knapp. Shortly after his birth the family became one
of the pioneer settlers of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, settling on a farm just
south of the city. Even as a young boy in school Knapp showed
remarkable talent in art. He went on to study at the Art
Institute of Chicago and also privately in Boston and New York.
