This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Having fled China after the 1989 massacre in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, he settled in Minneapolis and devoted his efforts to reinventing himself as an artist. In China, he had been an art professor at a Beijing university.
He has eagerly embraced the cultural heritage of his new country and fuses Chinese symbols with those of American flags, English words, and other symbols of Western culture. Many of his paintings are large scale with the canvas divided into broad bands of alternating color.
