| Henry Yoshitaka Kiyama was born in Japan on September 1, 1885. Kiyama studied at the San Francisco Institute of Art in 1910-11 and was active locally into the 1920s. Working in oil, he painted scenes of the City and portraits. He then returned to Japan where he devoted himself to teaching, painting, and a comic strip based upon his experiences as an American immigrant. He died there on April 4, 1951.
