| Born on the Isle of Man on April 14, 1850. Lemon was a resident of Oakland in the 1860s and 1870s. He had a studio-home in the attic of the Wilcox Bldg on 8th Street where Dr. Samuel Merritt, for whom the lake is named, was one of his patrons. Lemon lived among the Shoshone and other tribes of Colorado before returning to England where he became known for his animal paintings. He died in London on April 17, 1912. Exh: Mechanics' Inst.
