| Arthur Lismer emigrated from Sheffield, England in 1911 and at age twenty-six he took a position as a commercial artist for the Toronto firm, Grip Ltd. His early education in Sheffield included study at the Sheffield School of Art and later at the Academie Royal des Beaux-Arts in Antwerp. He was influenced by the art of the Barbizon school and the Post-Impressionists, especially by Van Gogh. Lismer was one of the four employees, who later formed the Group of Seven, to leave work for Rous and Man (showing 500 of 1211 characters). |
