Born in Oreboro, Sweden, he was a western landscape painter who immigrated to America in 1920, having attended the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm and later the Colorossi Academic and Academic Modern in Paris.
In Sweden, he became an established portrait and landscape artist. In 1920, he went to Chicago where he did much painting including murals for the Chicago World's Fair, a portrait of Carl Sandburg, and was a member of the Swedish American Association.
