This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Living near Indian Wells or Tuba City, Arizona, Big Lefthanded Chou did "one of the loveliest known early American Indian paintings" observed by 'white men'.   Chou was seen between 1915 and 1912 painting on dark tan-colored cotton cloth with native pigments, and one of the paintings was galloping horses.
