1861 - Enlists in 1st Regiment of Berdan S.S. (11 Aug.)

1862 - Wounded at Battle of Hanover Court, VA, left leg amputated (27 May)

1863 - Central Park Hospital in NYC recovering

Clinton Loveridge’s enlistment date of August 11, 1862 in New York is noted on the Army of the United States Certificate of Disability for Discharge, dated January 29, 1863. Describes his physical description, where he was born, civilian life occupation as landscape painter, description of amputation, date of discharge at Station Central Park Hospital.
Claim for Pension in the State of New York, County of Albany, dated 1863, gives specific details of his wounding at the battle of Hanover Court House.
In April of 1864 he received the rank of 1st Lt.. in the 1st Regiment, Veteran Reserves Corps.  Info. from Official Army Register of the Volunteer Forces, U.S. Army, Part VIII.
Mustered out July 3, 1866, Brooklyn, NY.
Exhibited at The National Academy of Design 1867 and 1868, letter dated 2/14/71 of Carlson, Allan, op cit.
Listed in 1870 census NY, Kings County, Brooklyn, 22nd ward.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Clinton Loveridge painted numerous pastoral landscapes with cattle and sheep, somewhat influenced by the Hudson River School. He was born in Albany, New York in 1824, dying in Brooklyn, New York in either 1902 or 1915 according to different sources.

He was active in Albany, New York from 1857 to 1860. He exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association from 1867 to 1884 and exhibited periodically at the National Academy of Design from 1867 to 1899. One of his painting locations was the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

He appears in the 1910 census of Brooklyn, NY (Kings County).  He is listed as age 76, boarder, born NY, parents born NY, occupation artist.
