| At age sixteen, David Lawton was invited to study with Scottish artist George Devlin in Scotland. After his return, he attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Since then he has studied at the Art Students League of New York.
He is a past president of the Maryland Pastel Society, a signature member of the Pastel Painters of Cape Cod, and an associate member of the Pastel Society of America and the Connecticut Pastel Society.
His studio is in Pasadena, Maryland.
