The following is from Manya Shayon Ungar:
During 1937 and 1938, David Lax lived with my parents, Samuel and Ethel Shayon, and me, in Jamaica, Queens, New York. During that period he worked on several paintings and, in early 1938, sculpted a bust of my head, Manya, the original of which was sold to Irving Mills, of Mills Music Publishing fame, a friend and business acquaintance of my father. He permitted my parents to have a bronze cast of it made, and in 1964 sold (showing 500 of 2025 characters). |
