| | Born in Baan, Hungary on Jan. 23, 1879. At 18 Lanyi won the Franz Josef medal and then studied with Rodin in Paris. He was well known in Europe for his sculptures and marble busts of the Duke of Windsor and other notables. He was brought to the U.S. by Esquire and Coronet magazines in 1936 and, within a few months, had settled in Los Angeles. He then produced many sculptured caricatures of writers, actors, and members of the movie industry until his death on April 23, 1951. Exh: Friday Morning Club (LA), 1937; Calif.
