| Born in London, England on Sept. 30, 1897, Litchfield began his art studies while at University College in London. After immigrating to New York City, he continued his studies at Art Students League under Bridgman and Duffner. Moving west, he was an illustrator for the Seattle Post Intelligencer before settling in San Francisco in the 1940s. There he continued illustrating for the Chronicle for many years before his demise on Oct. 20, 1966.
