This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Bristol, PA on Jan. 25, 1855. Edith Peirce studied art with Peter Moran at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women and with Thomas Eakins at the PAFA (1883-84). Following her marriage in 1885, she settled in Worcester, MA where she maintained a studio-home. During the 1890s she was active in San Francisco where her works were handled by Vickery, Atkins, & Torrey Gallery. The firm sold many copies of her etching of a Keith painting called A Windy Day. Mrs. Getchell became a well etcher before her death in Worcester on Sept. 18, 1940. Member: New York, Chicago, & Calif. Societies of Etchers; Philadelphia Society of Artists and Sketch Club. Exh: Union League Club (NYC), 1888; World's Columbian Expo (Chicago), 1893; Louisiana Purchase Expo (St Louis), 1904; Calif. Society of Etchers, 1913; PPIE, 1915; Worcester Museum, 1908 (solo), 1940 (memorial). In: Library of Congress; NY Public Library; Boston Museum; Worcester Museum.
