This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Ernest Longfellow was a painter of landscapes, coastal and marine scenes, as well as figures. His reputation came from his Oriental and foreign scenes including Egypt and Japan.

He was born at the Craigie House (Vassall-Craigie-Longfellow House) at 105 Brattle St, Cambridge, Massachusetts., and his parents were poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Fanny Longfellow. Ernest and his wife Hattie (Spellman) Longfellow later had homes in Manchester-by-the-Sea and Cambridge, Massachusetts.
His family home, now Longfellow National Historic Site, is under the management of the National Park Service (2003) and has extensive Longfellow family papers and the largest repository of Ernest W. Longfellow's art with hundreds of his drawings and paintings from childhood through adult works of art. The location of the artist's personal papers is unknown.

He painted many of his landscapes in that area.

Longfellow studied in Paris with Leon Bonnat and Thomas Couture and in the United States had exhibition venues that included the Boston Art Club, Brooklyn Art Association, National Academy of Design, and the Pennsylvania Academy.

He wrote an autobiography titled "Random Memories".
