Ernest Longfellow was a painter of landscapes, coastal and marine scenes, as well as figures. His reputation came from his Oriental and foreign scenes including Egypt and Japan.
He was born at the Craigie House (Vassall-Craigie-Longfellow House) at 105 Brattle St, Cambridge, Massachusetts., and his parents were poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Fanny Longfellow.
