Filippino Lippi was born in 1457, the son of Fra Filippo Lippi and
Lucretia Buti. His first training came from his father, Fra
Filippo Lippi, but he preferred the more imaginative, sensitive style
of Sandro Botticelli. From 1472, he had been part of a workshop
of Botticelli's, and eventually he served as an assistant to Botticelli.
In
1483 Lippi was commissioned to do an Annunciation for the Palazzo
Communale in San Gimignano. The same year Lorenzo de Medici
