According to the sculptor's own publication, A Sculptor Speaks to the Onlooker, Canaan Printing, Canaan, CT, Fred Lancome was born in 1911 in Brussels. At eighteen he entered the Academie des Neaux-Arts in Paris where he studied with Frederic Litman. In 1940 he emigrated to the United States, worked for several years with Franc Epping, and for a short while with Bertha Margolies and Nathan Choate. He had many one-person shows and participated in many group shows in museums and galleries in the East, and frequently lectured at schools, colleges and to adult groups.
