| Born in San Francisco, CA on Jan. 30, 1901. Educated in England, at 14 Lavare began reading Hindu and Chinese philosophy. Pursuing this interest led to extensive travel in Europe, India, and the Orient. As a sculptor, he worked in marble and wood creating stations of the cross for churches in the San Francisco Bay area and the Northwest. Blinded by glaucoma during his last six years, he died in his native city on March 9, 1966.
