Gyongy Laky, known for textile sculptural forms, was born in Budapest,
Hungary in 1944 and emigrated to the United States as a small
child. She completed undergraduate and graduate studies at the
University of California, Berkeley, and founded the internationally
acclaimed Fiberworks, Center for Textile Arts, there in 1973.
She is a professor in the Department of Environmental Design at the
University of California, Davis and was Chair of the Department
