Harold Landaker was born in Ohio on December 12, 1892. His early studies included time spent at the Art Institute of Chicago. He is the husband of artist Mabel Holtz Landaker.
He met his wife to be at the Art Institute of Chicago. They spent quite a few years afterwards traveling with a circus. Both were involved in painting sets, and decorations for the circus environment. Landaker moved to Southern California in 1940 where he landed a job with MGM studies.
