Born in Badenweiler, Germany on March 8, 1908, Irma Leisinger was painting at age 11. During the 1920s she was active in Paris and further studied there with Andre Lhote. In 1930 she entered the Berlin Academy where she was a pupil of Carl Hofer.
With her first husband, Samuel Engel, she settled in San Francisco in 1939 and, after his death, married printer Edward Grabhorn. Before her death in San Francisco on Feb. 22, 2003, she produced over 600 floral still lives, (showing 500 of 874 characters). |
