Jean Leason-Hitch began her art career in Melbourne, Australia, where
she studied commercial design and painting at the Parahan Technical Art
School. Under the tutelage of her father, Percy Leason, a
well-known supporter of the tonality tradition, she was schooled in the
elementary principals of the tonal technique advanced by artist Max
Meldrum.
Arriving in New York in 1937, Leason-Hitch continued her career doing
