Jean Louis Lefort was born in Bordeaux in 1875 and died in 1954. He gained a reputation for his watercolor illustrations of Paris, and was featured in publications such as Les Criox des Bois by Roland Dorgelés and l’Hotel des Ventes by René Benjamin.
He was president of the Société des Humoristes and of the Société des Peintres du Paris Moderne; he became a committee member of the Salon des Indépendants and the Société des Aquarellistes Francais. Lefort was also awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.
His works are to be found in the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, as well as the museums in Bordeaux, Hanover, and Strasbourg.
