Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| | Painter. Born in 1837 in Treves, Germany. Ludovici began his art training in Antwerp and Paris before arriving in NYC in 1851. He later returned to Europe for several years of art study in Dresden and Munich. During the Civil War he served in the Union army and then spent a short while in Cuba. From 1875-89 he maintained a studio in NYC. Having visited California in the 1870s and in need of a milder climate, he returned in 1889. He lived lived briefly in San Francisco where he painted the portrait of Wm Keith. He soon settled in Pasadena and became prominent in the local art colony. He was a resident of Pasadena at the time of his death on the East Coast in 1906. Exh: SFAA, 1889, 1891; Calif. State Fair, 1892-94; World's Columbian Expo (Chicago), 1893; Mechanics' Inst.
